2.1.14 Extended Cache Space Management in the IORM Cluster Plan

Exadata I/O Resource Management (IORM) enables predictable performance by guaranteeing space in Exadata Smart Flash Cache and Exadata RDMA Memory Cache (XRMEM cache). Existing capabilities govern cache space usage across various container databases (CDBs) and pluggable databases (PDBs), while Exascale also facilitates cache space management across different Exascale vaults and resource groups.

Oracle Exadata System Software release 26.1.0 extends these existing cache management capabilities by enabling cache management definitions in the IORM cluster plan. The IORM cluster plan specifies how storage server resources are allocated across multiple Oracle Grid Infrastructure (GI) clusters. In the cluster plan, each directive specifies an allocation to a GI cluster, rather than an individual database or consumer group.

Starting with Oracle Exadata System Software release 26.1.0, each directive in the IORM cluster plan can specify separate minimum and maximum space allocations for both Exadata Smart Flash Cache and XRMEM cache. These settings manage cache space at the GI cluster level and enable databases without explicit cache settings to share the respective cluster-level allocation for each cache.
