2.1.13 Custom Guest Gold-Image

Oracle Exadata System Software release 26.1.0 introduces a gold-image workflow that enables Exadata administrators to create and maintain customized guest images for Exadata database server virtual machines (VMs). This enables administrators to create a customized Exadata-ready VM image once and use it repeatedly for consistent guest provisioning.

The workflow uses libguestfs tooling for offline image modification, along with Oracle Exadata Deployment Assistant (OEDA) Command Line Utility (OEDACLI) and Exascale volumes for cloning and deployment. Administrators can customize the system image, Oracle Grid Infrastructure (GI) software, Oracle Database software, and extra disks, and update the Engineered System XML configuration file to provision new guests from the customized images.

This capability helps Exadata administrators support diverse application requirements, provision repeatable configurations more quickly, and reduce repeated post-provisioning customization.
