9.8.1 Support for Oracle Database Releases 12c Release 1 (12.1) and 11g Release 2 (11.2)
Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software 12c Release 1 (12.1) supports Oracle Database releases 12c Release 1 (12.1) and 11g Release 2 (11.2) running on a single Oracle Exadata Database Machine. The database servers get full performance, such as smart scans, fast file creation, and fast incremental backup, from all Exadata Storage Servers running Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software release 12c Release 1 (12.1).
Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software 12c Release 1 (12.1) is able to support multiple database releases by running appropriate cell offload servers to handle the offload requests. Offload requests coming from Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) are handled by a release 11g offload server, and offload requests coming from Oracle Database 12c Release 1 (12.1) database are handled by a 12c offload server.
Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software 12c Release 1 (12.1) now contains separate offload servers for each major database release so that it can fully support all offload operations. Offload requests coming from Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) are handled automatically by a release 11g offload server, and offload requests coming from Oracle Database 12c Release 1 (12.1) database are handled automatically by a 12c offload server.
Exadata Storage Server 12c Release 1 (12.1) can support the following releases of Oracle Database:
