4 Servicing CRUs That Require System Power Off

Perform tasks for servicing customer-replaceable units (CRUs) for the Oracle Database Appliance that require you to power off system components.

All Oracle Database Appliance CRUs are located in the server nodes.

Note:

The servicing of hot-plug components such as the HDDs, SDDs, power supplies, and fans is described in Servicing CRUs That Do Not Require System Power Off.

Servicing Oracle Database Appliance X8-2 Series CRUs

This section describes how to perform CRU service tasks requiring system power off for Oracle Database Appliance X8 series system.

This section describes how to service customer-replaceable components that require server power off for an Oracle Database X8-2 series system. If you have some other Oracle Database Appliance model, select the appropriate link listed in Servicing CRUs That Require System Power Off.

Note:

When adding DIMMs to the system, refer to the "Optional Component Installation" section in the Owner's Guide for supported configurations.

This section describes how to service customer-replaceable units (CRUs) that require you to power off the server.

Note:

For the Oracle Database Appliance X8-2-HA, all of the CRUs on the storage shelf and the storage expansion shelf can be replaced while the power is on. See Oracle Database Appliance X3-2/X4-2/X5-2 and X6-2-HA/X7-2-HA/X8-2-HA Storage Shelf Hot-Pluggable Components for storage shelf component replacement procedures.

Adding Optional Public Network PCIe Cards in Oracle Database Appliance X8-2

Describes installation sequence for adding optional public network PCIe cards to the Oracle Database Appliance X8-2.

The Oracle Database Appliance X8-2 series systems support up to three optional public network cards (or three network cards per node if you have an X8-2-HA). Rules for adding optional network cards are:

  • Order any optional network cards when you initially buy the system and have the cards factory installed.

  • If you wish to add optional network cards after your appliance has been delivered from the factory, the following rules apply:

    • All optional network cards should be installed BEFORE you initially power-on the system and install system software. Once the system is provisioned and running, adding PCIe cards afterwards will require that you perform clean-up, redeploy the appliance software, and restore the database from a backup.

    • All optional network cards must be the same type and model (refer to the table below).

    • You must install optional network cards in the proper order and slots (refer to the table below).

The following table describes the supported network cards and the order in which they can be installed in the system.

Description Oracle Database Appliance X8-2S Oracle Database Appliance X8-2M Oracle Database Appliance X8-2-HA (per node)
