Single Instance Database Patching Using FPP

Follow these instructions to deploy the software and patch single instance databases using FPP.

  1. In Enterprise Manager click on Targets and select Databases. In the Databases page click on Administration and from the drop down menu select Fleet Maintenance.
  2. Select the FPP image to which the database is subscribed to, filter by Image selecting the Gold Image to be used, Target Type select Database Instance, and select Update under Operation. This will show only the databases subscribed to the image.
  3. Select all databases requiring an update and click Next.
  4. In the Operation page Software Deployment will be automatically selected, ensure the information presented is correct and select a Start time. Enter the Home Name Prefix if your environment requires a custom Oracle Home name prefix, this feature is available starting with Oracle Enterprise Manager 13.5 Release update 20 (13.5.0.20). Enable the Update Database task by check marking it and select a Start time.

    Note:

The scheduled time for the update can be either Immediately/Auto or Later. If you select Immediately the patching operation will begin immediately after the deployment operation is successfully completed. When selecting Later make sure there is ample time between operations in case of issues.
In the Options section, select the options most convenient for your environment. Specify Credentials, including the FPP Rest User credential and Pre/Post Script inputs and click Next.
  5. In the Review click on Validate and select Quick to perform a quick validation or Full to perform a full validation (full validations submit a deployment procedure). Once the validation completes successfully, submit the operation by clicking Submit. Enter a name for the procedure and click Submit once again.
  6. Click on Monitor Progress to view the operation in the Procedure Activity Page. Once the procedure completes successfully have updated the primary databases.
