Part I Introduction to Monitoring Exadata Cloud Service

Oracle Enterprise Manager offers a complete cloud lifecycle management solution for the various Exadata Cloud Services.

Overview and Architecture

Oracle Enterprise Manager provides an integrated monitoring solution for the various resources in the Exadata Cloud Service. The following diagrams show the various resources of the Exadata Cloud Services and the resource management by Oracle or Customer.

As in the on-premises Oracle Exadata Database Machine, an Enterprise Manager Agent is installed on each of the Exadata Cloud virtual machines for each VM cluster. The agent helps in monitoring the resources that reside in that VM Cluster such as host, database, listener, ASM, etc. One of the agents installed on a VM cluster is used to monitor the storage servers through the cloud-provided ExaCLI user. In addition to the agents installed in the VM cluster hosts, a standard Enterprise Manager Agent is installed outside of the Exadata Cloud VM clusters. This agent is used for discovery and monitoring the Exadata Cloud OCI resources such as the Exadata Infrastructure and VM Clusters. It is installed in a location that allows communication with the OCI REST API endpoints as well as the Enterprise Manager OMS servers. This same agent can be used to discover and monitor multiple Exadata Cloud targets. For more details regarding the required agents, see Overview of the Required Agents .

Oracle Enterprise Manager discovers Exadata Cloud Service as a single target and automatically identifies and organizes all its dependent components. Using Oracle Enterprise Manager you can then:

  • Monitor and manage all Exadata, Exadata Cloud systems along with any other targets, from a single interface
  • Visualize storage and compute data
  • View performance metrics of your Exadata components
