Install the Media Flow Engine

Install and configure the Media Flow Engine (MFE). Then start the service for use with the Intelligent Media Connector.

Verify System Requirements

Verify your system meets the minimum hardware and software requirements.

Table 8-1 Hardware Requirements

Resource Requirement
Memory 16GB (32GB recommended)
Storage 150GB (300 GB recommended)
CPU 8 (16 recommended)
Network 1Gbps Ethernet
NICs 1 (2 recommended)
With 2 NICs, use a dedicate NIC for each of the following:
  • control traffic
  • RTP media traffic

Note:

The MFE's IP address must be reachable by both the RTP Proxy and the Converged Application Server.

Table 8-2 Software Requirements

Resource Requirement
Operating System Oracle Linux 9 (latest OL9 version + UEK kernel recommended)
Java for Media Flow Engine (MFE) JDK 25

Note:

Oracle recommends using the latest version of the kernel.

Download the MFE Software

  1. Sign in to My Oracle Support, select Patches, and search for patch 39305242.
  2. Download and extract the zip file.
  3. Copy the media-flow-engine-8.3.0.0.0.tar.gz file to your MFE system.

Install the MFE Software

  1. SSH to your MFE system.
  2. Set the JAVA_HOME variable to the path of your JDK 25. Then update your PATH variable to include the bin directory of your new JAVA_HOME.
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/jdk-25.0.3-oracle-x64
    export PATH="$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH"
  3. Extract the Media Flow Engine file.
    tar xf media-flow-engine-8.3.0.0.0.tar.gz
  4. Navigate to the media-flow-engine-8.3.0.0.0-MFE/MFE_HOME/config directory and update the two IP address parameters in the application.yaml file to match the IP address of the server where you will deploy the MFE.
    • application.ip-address – The IP address which Converged Application Server uses to communicate with the Media Flow Engine over HTTP or HTTPS.

When configuring Media Flow Engines in the Remote Console, use this IP address for the Management IP field.

    • Gst.Ip-address – The internal IP address used for receiving RTP packets from the RTP Proxy.
    application:
      media-session:
        base-path: /media/v1/session
      ip-address: "10.1.1.11"
      custom-metrics:
        endpoint-path: /metrics

    Gst:
          Ip-address: "192.168.122.11"
  5. If you want to enable TLS, see Configure TLS for the MFE.
  6. Navigate to the media-flow-engine-8.3.0.0.0-MFE/MFE_HOME/bin directory.
    cd ../bin
  7. Start the MFE.
    sh startMFE.sh
Alternatively, to start the MFE without its being dependent on your SSH session:
    nohup sh startMFE.sh &

For instructions on connecting the MFE to your Converged Application Server, see the "Connect Media Flow Engines" chapter in the Intelligent Media Connector.
