ECP Data Bridge Limits and Known Behavior

Review the transfer, storage, session, and data-handling behavior that applies when using ECP Data Bridge.

Source connections

  • Configure a source by using its IP address. Source hostnames are not supported.

  • A source name must be unique.

  • You can save a source without testing it and test the connection later.

  • Testing a connection does not verify that the configured source folder exists. Use Check Folder to validate the folder separately.

File selection and concurrent transfers

  • You can select one folder for each transfer.

  • The transfer includes the files and nested folders contained in the selected folder.

  • Only one download stage can be active on a Cloud Connector at a time. This restriction applies across accounts, browser tabs, browser windows, and API clients.

  • An upload that is already in progress does not prevent another download from starting.

  • ECP Data Bridge verifies that sufficient local storage is available before starting a download.

Download and upload behavior

ECP Data Bridge first downloads the selected content to local storage. The OCI Object Storage upload begins only after the download completes successfully.

Reference information

Condition Behavior

Download completes successfully

ECP Data Bridge begins the upload automatically.

Download fails or is canceled

The upload does not begin. Files downloaded before the interruption remain in local storage.

Upload fails or is canceled

Files already uploaded remain in OCI Object Storage. The downloaded dataset remains in local storage unless it is removed through SMB.

Upload is retried

ECP Data Bridge restarts the upload from the beginning and can replace corresponding objects in the destination bucket.

A required local file is missing

The upload cannot be retried.

A failed or canceled download cannot be resumed or retried. Initiate a new transfer from the source.

A failed or canceled upload can be retried only when the download completed successfully and the complete downloaded dataset remains in local storage.

File retention and cleanup

ECP Data Bridge does not automatically delete files from local storage after an upload completes.

It also does not automatically remove:

  • Files left in local storage after a failed or canceled download.

  • Objects left in OCI Object Storage after a failed or canceled upload.

  • Files according to an automatic time-to-live or retention policy.

Remove files manually when they are no longer required.

Note: Do not remove files associated with a failed or canceled upload if you intend to retry the upload.

Local storage

Source downloads and files added through the SMB share use the same local storage.

ECP Data Bridge displays the total, used, and free storage values in the local UI. The values are refreshed every minute.

When insufficient storage is available for the selected folder, ECP Data Bridge does not start the download. Use an account with read-write access to remove files through the SMB share, and then initiate the transfer again.

Accounts and sessions

  • ECP Data Bridge provides 15 runtime-configuration account slots.

  • The same configured credentials are used for the local UI and SMB access.

  • The default local UI session duration is eight hours.

  • Closing a browser tab does not end an unexpired session.

  • Signing out invalidates the session in other tabs that use the same session.

  • Changing an account password invalidates existing local UI sessions for that account.

  • Session expiration does not stop downloads or uploads already running in the background.

SMB access

  • SMB version 3 is supported.

  • SMB connections can use the Cloud Connector hostname or IP address.

  • Hostname-based access is preferred because the connection can continue to work after an IP-address change, provided that the hostname resolves correctly.

  • Read-only accounts can view and copy files from the share.

  • Read-write accounts can also add, edit, rename, and delete files and folders.

OCI Object Storage

ECP Data Bridge uploads files only to the OCI Object Storage bucket configured in the application runtime configuration.

ECP Data Bridge does not create or manage the:

  • OCI tenancy

  • OCI user

  • API-key registration

  • Object Storage bucket

  • IAM policy

Use an IAM policy that grants only the permissions required to validate access to and upload objects to the configured bucket.

Non-OCI cloud-storage destinations are not supported.

File security and processing

ECP Data Bridge does not provide application-level encryption at rest for files stored locally on the Cloud Connector. Apply encryption at the source when required.

ECP Data Bridge does not:

  • Scan transferred files for malware.

  • Inspect or validate file contents.

  • Transform, parse, or compress files.

  • Synchronize files automatically with an external SMB share.

  • Automatically transfer files based on changes detected in local storage.

Application CPU and memory statistics are available through ECP monitoring rather than through the ECP Data Bridge local UI.
