Understanding Consumer Products

Consumer products record attributes and rules that are used for consumer contracts. A consumer product can for example record attributes for:
  • The duration of a fixed-priced period

  • The amount of a contractual change, such as an exit fee

  • Prices

These attributes can be used when setting up a new consumer contract or changing an existing contract. They could also be used to display details when a product is being selected or to include details in correspondence with customers.

A consumer product’s rules are used to set up new consumer contracts and to change existing consumer contracts.

A consumer product’s attributes and rules are recorded in the consumer product’s version. Refer to Understanding Consumer Product Versions for more details.

Consumer product eligibility criteria can be used to determine which consumer products that are eligible in particular circumstances. For example a consumer product could be eligible only when autopay is being used. Consumer product eligibility criteria are optional. If a consumer product has eligibility criteria then the consumer product is eligible or not depending on the criteria. If however a consumer product does not have eligibility criteria then the consumer product is always eligible. The next sections provide more information on this functionality.
