Understanding Organizations

Organizations are used for categorization and reporting for locations. For example, you may want to report on only the districts in a certain area or for a particular service. The reporting structure would involve the hierarchy that groups locations by a structure of parent and child organizations.

Refer to About Asset Locations for more information.

Organizations are defined by the following:

  • Organization Type: Identifies the types of organizations (Division, Group, and so on) The organization type record identifies valid parent types within the organization. Parent organization types define the set of valid location types and organization types that can be used to define a parent location or parent organization.
Note: Use caution in creating too many Organization Types as it can become restrictive when placing your Organizations within the hierarchy.
  • Organization Disposition: The current status of the organization (Active or Inactive).
  • Parent Organization: The parent organization, if applicable.
  • Main Contact: A contact for the organization.
