Capturing Product Use Metrics
The product provides functionality to periodically calculate and capture information used to review and confirm licensing / subscription compliance for cloud implementations.
Following points highlight some of the features of this functionality:
- The product metric type object defines configuration related to a given metric, including which cloud offerings it applies to and the product metric snapshot business object to use when capturing the metric.
- The product metric snapshot object is used to capture the calculated metric.
- The Product Use Metric portal is provided to display information about the calculated metrics.
- A monitor batch control is used to create the product metric snapshots. Every time it's run, it creates a snapshot for each applicable product metric type. For on premises, all product metric types are considered applicable. For a cloud implementation, the system looks at the applicable cloud offerings setting on the product metric type. If that is populated with specific cloud offerings, then the product metric type is only applicable if your product is in the list.
- In a cloud environment, the monitor batch control used to create the product metric snapshot is considered an internal batch job and will be run by the Oracle Utilities Cloud Service.
Note:
Although the product use metrics functionality is required for cloud
implementations, implementations that are on premises may also choose to run the product metric
type's monitor batch control to capture information for viewing in the Product Use Metric portal
if desired.
