Understanding DER Aggregators

DER (Distributed Energy Resource) aggregators are external systems that facilitate communication between a utility and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) devices and, in some cases control and manage DER devices to provide energy and other services to utilities. Based on the IEEE 2030.5 protocol, utilities typically enter into a contractual agreement with one or more aggregators such that authorized aggregators can offer contracted programs to the end customers on behalf of the utility.

As DER Aggregators are created and updated in Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Cloud Service and Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Management, aggregator data is synchronized with Oracle Utilities Network Management System. DER Aggregator data synchronization includes contact and program offering information. Note that deletion of DER Aggregators in Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Cloud Service and Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Management does not trigger data synchronization.

DER aggregators utilize processing methods that specify the types of messages that are processed and sent to the external system.

DER aggregators are defined by the following:

  • Service Provider Type: The general type of service provider to which the DER aggregator belongs (default is "DER Aggregator").

  • Status: The current status of the DER aggregator in the system.

  • Start Date: The date on which the DER aggregator is eligible to provide service.

  • End Date: The date after which the DER aggregator is no longer eligible to provide service.

  • Contact ID: The program contact for the DER aggregator.

  • External Reference ID: An ID used to reference the DER aggregator in external systems and applications.

  • External System: The external system associated with the DER aggregator.
  • Our Name in Their System: The name for Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Cloud Service or Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Management in the external system.
  • Certification Status: The IEEE 2030.5 certification status of the DER aggregator. Valid values include "Certified", "In Progress", "Not Applied", and "Rejected".

  • Energy Source: The souce of energy provided by the aggregator.

  • DER Aggregator Class: The general class to which the DER aggregator belongs, such as "Independent System Operator", "Distribution System Operator", or "Both".

  • Program Offering: One or more programs that the aggregator can offer to end customers on behalf of the utility

  • Processing Methods: One or more processing methods used to define the format or means by which the DER aggregator receives or sends data from or to the application. Processing methods can also be used to define the information an external system wishes to subscribe to receive from the application.

System Data

DER Aggregators are based on the system data:
