Creating Pattern Roles within a Rule Pattern

Use the following guidelines when defining pattern roles:

• Use pattern roles to determine the bound variables that are saved after a match is created.
• Check that other variables are written to the log files, however, not saved in the KDD tables after a job is complete.
• Add variables to pattern roles if they are used for highlights, augmentation, or scoring.
• Use the variable as a highlight if a format string is available.
• Arrange the variables in the order they should display in the highlights using the Move Up or Move Down buttons.
