Finalize

Finalize completes payment for an existing authorization without the need to present the card again. The finalization amount can reflect the full or partial check amount and any tip entered at the workstation.

Note:

Finalization assumes the cardholder is no longer present. As a result, the payment device does not prompt for a tip during finalization.

If the final payment amount exceeds the authorized amount, the payment service provider (PSP) may automatically perform an incremental authorization in the background, depending on the payment provider's capabilities.

If multiple authorizations exist on the check, the workstation user is prompted to select which authorization to finalize.
