Menu Item Linking with Negative Quantities

Negative-quantity links allow the same condiment recipe to support both additions and removals, eliminating the need to maintain separate recipes.

For example, consider a cheeseburger recipe that contains the following items:

  • 1 ea. patty
  • 1 ea. bun
  • 1 ea. slice of cheese
  • 1 oz. ketchup
  • 1 oz. mustard
  • 1 oz. onions

If a server enters a cheeseburger with no ketchup, the standard recipe would normally deplete 1 ounce of ketchup from inventory. To prevent this, link the No Ketchup modifier to the 1 ounce ketchup recipe with a quantity of -1.

When No Ketchup is selected, the negative quantity offsets the ketchup quantity in the cheeseburger recipe, so no ketchup is depleted from inventory.
