Coaxial
A coaxial cable is a type of shielded cable consisting of a single copper wire surrounded by layers of insulation. It is commonly used by cable TV and internet providers. Common types of coaxial cable include RG-59 and RG-6. RG-6 uses a lower gauge copper wire and provides better insulation than RG-59. Coaxial cables are typically terminated with a threaded F-type connector.
Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) and Table Service Restaurants (TSR) may receive internet access from a service provider that terminates the restaurant’s WAN connection with a coaxial cable. Coaxial termination can be converted to Ethernet using a cable modem or a MoCA-enabled router.
Coaxial cables can be used with MoCA-to-Ethernet converters.
