Displaying Line Items on a Payment Device
You can configure your SPI Payment driver to display guest check line items on the workstation’s payment device in near real-time. This is useful when the payment device is customer-facing and can help reduce errors by letting the guest verify the order as it is entered.
When enabled, SPI sends the current line items of the guest check to the payment device. The line items included in the message are menu items, service charges, discounts, tender medias, and the guest check’s total due. An updated message is sent whenever a line item is added to or voided from the check. The display clears when the check is closed or service totaled.
- The feature must be supported by your Payment Service Provider (PSP) and the payment device.
- Timeout and other settings on the payment device may cause the display to be cleared due to inactivity, but the display is reactivated on further activity on the guest check.
- Line items are sent unconsolidated.
- The format of the display is controlled by the PSP and may vary from device to device and PSP to PSP.
- The feature is not supported for Guest Pay devices.
- Guest Check Info Lines are not sent.
