Multi-Factor Authentication

Authentication factors are different categories of credentials that human users can use to prove identification on a given system or service. The following authentication factors are widely accepted:

  • Something You Know: for example, passwords, PINs, security questions, etc.
  • Something You Have: for example: tokens (hardware or software), private keys, SMS, email, etc.
  • Something You Are: for example, biometrics like fingerprints or facial recognition, etc.
  • Location: for example, IP ranges or geolocation.

For extra security, Simphony MFA by combining the default password-based authentication (“Something You Know”) with one-time passwords (OTP - “Something You Have”). When MFA is enabled, Simphony provides EMC users OTPs through configured emails. At login time, users enter passwords and the correct OTP to be authenticated. For more information, see the Oracle Simphony Configuration Guide.
