POS Client User Authentication
POS client users (employees or workstation operators) authenticate on a client device through a unique, numeric employee ID. Employees can provide IDs through one of the following methods:
- Swiping a magnetic card
- Tapping a radio frequency identification (RFID) card
- Entering an employee ID on the workstation numeric keyboard
Fingerprint authentication is a form of biometric authentication and is supported on Microsoft Windows-based and Linux-based POS clients as the sole method of authentication or it can be used with multi-factor authentication with any of the three previously described methods for providing employee IDs.
Oracle recommends using an employee ID with a fingerprint to authenticate on POS clients. Using magnetic cards, RFID cards fingerprints, or a combination of them, provides stronger security for POS clients. If you use employee IDs only, Oracle recommends configuring Simphony to require at least 6 digits.
Google Android clients use employee IDs only. For more information, see Security Considerations for Android-based Workstations.
For more information on configuring workstation security, see the Oracle Simphony Configuration Guide.
