Template Action General Information

Displays the current values in the standard or custom fields that describe the template action:

  • The fields can be display-only, editable, or required. If a field is required, an asterisk (*) appears next to it and the action cannot be saved until you provide a value for the field.
  • Date fields appear as offsets expressed in days. When the template is used, the date the action becomes activated is computed based on the topic creation date plus the template offset.
  • Arrow icons may appear after the names of a pair of fields to show that they are a linked pair. For example, if fields for Country (Linked pair icon) and State (Linked pair icon) appear, the arrows indicate that you must select a value for the Country field first and then select a value for the State field. You cannot select a State value first: the values available for State depend on the Country you select.

In Edit mode, each field accepts text, numeric, and date values, or provides a list of predefined values that you can select. If a value is not required in the field, you can select (a blank value) to indicate no value for the field. A field that accepts text may also offer a Select Available Values link so you can select one or more values from a list.

To save changes in the Template Action General Information section, click Save.

Note: The Save button affects only the Template Action General Information section of the topic template. You do not need to click Save after you work with other sections of this page.

Field descriptions—Template Action General Information

Depending on your organization’s workflow configuration, the following fields appear in this section.

Field Description

Action type

Required. Every topic template action must have an Action type. Available values include all activated action types for the login group, but defaults to Generic or first type in the list. The selected action type populates the values in the other General Information fields.

Override defaults

If not selected, all fields, except Assigned to, are disabled.

When selected, you can override the selected action type's predefined values.

For the Generic action type, the Override defaults feature is disabled.

Action name

Required. Name for the action.

Action description

Description of the action.

Activate on topic states

All means that the action will, by default, be created in the initial state.

Use Select states when moving the topic to the Assigned state.

At least one topic state should be selected. If the initial topic state is not selected, the action is created in the Planned state.

Assigned to

Specify users or work teams. Oracle Empirica Topics verifies the Assigned to value.

Users include enabled users from the saved topic template’s Visible to work teams field that have edit permission.

Work teams include all work teams with the Allow assignment of topics and actions work team property enabled and at least one user in the Assigned to list.

Start date

Anticipated start date for the action.

Planned completion date

Planned date for the completion of the action.

Actual completion date

Date the action was completed.

If another user edits the same topic template action at the same time, the first one to save the action will have their changes saved. The second user gets an error message indicating the action has been changed since the edit session began. The General Information section of the page becomes visible, allowing the user to print or take a screen shot, so that the information can be reentered.
