Search for Persons
This topic describes how to locate persons who are currently in the system. If you do not find the person you are looking for, you can create a new person.
To search for a person in Oracle Health Patient Administration:
- From the Schedule View, select the Ask Oracle box. Enter Find, Search, or Lookup, then enter the person's name.
- You can enter the person's name using the following formats: First Name Last Name or Last Name, First Name.
- The following search criteria are available: Date of birth, phone number, email address, MRN, and last four digits of SSN.
- After you enter your search criteria, press Enter to perform the search. Search results are displayed with the most likely matches at the top of the list of results.
- A message is displayed if no results or too many results are found.
- Select Preview to view additional information.
- Update the search criteria if needed. After results are displayed, additional filters include MRN, birth sex, and phone number.
- If the person is located and has an MRN, when you select the person, the Patient Profile is displayed, from which you can continue with the workflow.
- If the person is located and does not have an MRN, select the person to view their information.
- If the person is not located and needs to be added to the system, select Create New Patient and follow the Add Patient workflow.
- If the person is located and needs to be added as a patient, then convert to patient.

Additional information about search functionality:- The system qualifies a person based on the degree to which any of their person names, current or past, and any name type, match the name search criteria provided. The system matches a person to a Person Name Search value using begins with and exact matching and allows you to adjust this to phonetic. When initiated using conversational search, persons qualify based on the degree to which any person names sound like (phonetic) the name search criteria provided.
- When searching by email address, the system qualifies a person whose current or historic email address exactly matches the search criteria value. Additionally, the system also includes close matches, though with a lower match score, such as a person with an email address whose characters are one keystroke off or whose characters are transposed.
- When searching by date of birth, the system qualifies a person whose date of birth is equal to the search criteria value. Additionally, the system includes close matches where a person with a date of birth that is a close match to the search criteria value is considered a potential match with a lower match score.
- When searching by MRN, the system qualifies a person who is a patient with an active MRN equal to the search criteria value.
- When searching by phone, the system qualifies a person whose phone is or has been equal to the search criteria value, regardless of the phone type. Additionally, the system also includes close matches, though with a lower match score, where a person with a phone number that is a close match to the phone number search criteria value is considered a potential match.
