Modify/Update Block — Cutoff Block

Use the block cutoff option to manually release all non-picked rooms held in a block allocation on or before the specified cutoff date (or days) as set up in the block. You cannot undo a cutoff and would need to update the block allocation in order to add or increase the rooms in the block allocation. For more information, see Using Block Room and Rate Grid.

Block Cutoff Behavior

The following examples show how the cutoff feature behaves in certain scenarios.
  • When you create a block and enter a cutoff date, all room types for all dates receive the cutoff date entered in the block details. If the cutoff date is modified on the block header, a prompt appears: "Apply New Cutoff Dates to the Block Details for All Date and Room Types?" If you select Yes, the new cutoff date is applied to all the room types for all the dates in the room grid details. If you select No, the cutoff date on the block header will be different than the cutoff date in the room grid details. If you change the date to a future date, any canceled reservations will be returned to the block and not to the house until the cutoff date is reached. Afterwards, the process functions as usual.

  • When you create a block without entering a cutoff date, all room types for all dates receive the arrival date as the cutoff date.

  • When borrowing from a room type within a block that does not have any inventory or the block is elastic and the block dates are extended, the cutoff date in the block header is used and the cutoff dates are populated based on the following two rules:
    • If the cutoff date on the block details is present, the cutoff date for all the room types and dates will be populated with the date in the primary details.

    • If the cutoff date on the block details is not set, the cutoff date for all the room types and dates will equal the arrival date for the room type.

  • When borrowing from a room type within a block that does have an inventory, the cutoff date from the block header for the new room type will be populated.

  • When updating the cutoff date directly in the Business Block Search Grid details, the User Activity Log entry displays only an entry of "Updated Block Grid - Summary," not the details of what has changed on the grid.

  • When a manual cutoff is completed on a block and a room is canceled on the same business date, the room is returned to the original block. However, if you run the night audit, then canceling a reservation for the block returns the room to either the house or to the block depending on the value selected in the Return Block to House OPERA Control.
