Data Dictionary tab
Use the Data Dictionary tab to discover available database table and field metadata for reference. It does not provide direct database access or define supported queries, joins, primary or foreign key relationships, or complete data lineage.
-
Open the Data Dictionary tab - Select Data Dictionary from the Data Studio tab bar.
-
Filter tables - Browse the available table list or use Filter tables to narrow the list by entering all or part of a table name. Select a table to review its metadata.
-
Review table details - The page displays the Data Dictionary metadata version and the selected table's comment. Use the Columns, Constraints, and Indexes tabs to review the available details.
-
Review columns - On the Columns tab, review COLUMN_NAME, DATA_TYPE, NULLABLE, DATA_DEFAULT, COLUMN_ID, and COMMENTS. Some tables or fields may not contain every value.
-
Download - Select Download, then choose Current table or Filtered results. Filtered results includes every table matching the current table filter; if no filter is applied, it includes all available tables. Choose HTML, PDF, or Excel, and then select Download. Confirm the displayed Data Dictionary version when using or sharing the export.
Using table metadata
Use Data Dictionary metadata to identify candidate data elements for reporting or analytics. Validate availability and supported use in the documentation for the target release.
-
Table names identify database objects that may contain information for a business area.
-
COMMENTS describe the information represented by a column. Use them to assess whether a column may be relevant to a report or analysis.
-
Constraints and Indexes provide structural metadata. Treat these details as reference information rather than proof of a supported relationship or query pattern.
-
Compare the table and column details with the business question, then validate the chosen data in the applicable reporting or analytics tool.
