About job schedules

A job is a mechanism that the Oracle Central Coding application uses to get data from, and return data to Oracle InForm or Clinical One.

For each study, the Oracle Central Coding application runs the following types of jobs:

  • Get Requests job—Retrieves verbatims and associated context items from the Oracle InForm application.
  • Exchange Query Updates job—Sends queries to the source application for review by an InForm or Clinical One user. The job runs after each iteration of the Get Requests job and synchronizes query data for verbatims in the Oracle Central Coding and source applications.

    Note:

Before the Exchange Query Updates job can run, a Oracle Central Coding application administrator must enter the username of an Oracle InForm or Clinical One user with rights to create and update queries on the System Configuration page or the Study Information page for the study. For more information, Setting system configuration options for queries (Setting system configuration options for queries, About queries) or Editing study information (Editing study information, About queries).
  • Return Codes job—Returns codes and approval details to the source application.

Jobs of the same type run serially on the adapter; each job starts as soon as the preceding job completes.

The Oracle Central Coding application runs the jobs for the studies associated with an adapter according to a user-defined timetable called job schedule.

The schedule works only if the Oracle Central Coding application is configured to work with job schedules for your organization.

Job schedules can be:

  • Basic—Based on days of the week and time of day.
  • Advanced—Based on months, days of the week, and time of day.

There are no default timetables for job schedules.

The Oracle Central Coding application includes the following default types of job schedule:

  • Get Requests job schedule—Specifies when to run the Get Requests job to retrieve coding requests from the source application. After the Get Requests job is complete, the Oracle Central Coding application also runs the Exchange Query Updates job to synchronize query data.
  • Return Codes job schedule—Specifies when to run the Return Codes job to return coded requests and approval details to the source application.

Each adapter has one Get Requests and one Return Codes job schedule. The job queue for a job schedule runs synchronously with the ASAP (nonscheduled) job queues for the adapter.
