About action states

To create a structured workflow for completing actions, each topic workflow configuration defines the workflow states that can be assigned to an action.

Each topic workflow configuration defines the workflow states that can trigger a planned action to move to the initial state. When you add a topic workflow configuration, Oracle Empirica Topics automatically creates a limited set of action states: Planned, Init, and Closed.
  • Actions in the Planned state are dormant. These planned actions remain dormant until they are transitioned from the Planned state into the Init state.
  • Open actions include actions designated as the Initial state and actions in any other state that is not the Planned state or designated as a final state. These open actions are the actions actively being worked on.
  • Closed actions include actions in any state designated as a final state. Closed actions are actions whose work has been completed.

A topic workflow configuration will always have one planned state and one initial state.

You can add states and customize the transitions permitted between states. For each workflow state, you can define the next possible state or states that can be assigned. For example, you can set up a topic workflow configuration so that an action passes through the workflow states: Planned, Initial, Assigned, and Closed.

Once you have defined action states and the fields that store action information, you define the level of access that users have to each field when an action is in each of the states. You specify whether each field is visible, editable, or required when the action is in each state.

Note:

Each topic workflow configuration also defines a separate set of workflow states that can be assigned to a topic as a whole. See About topic states for more information.
