RFID EPC Information
Physical RFID system reads typically return the raw hexadecimal or binary representation of an EPC, values which must then be de-coded to derive a useful representation of the information that a tag holds. The external systems are expected to decode this hexadecimal or binary information and send the EPC in the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) standard to EICS.
An EPC URI looks as follows: urn:epc:tag:sgtin-96:3.0037000.06542.773346595
In this example, sgtin-96 indicates the tag format. The first digit after that is a filter value (3). The 3 represents this tag is tracking a shipping unit. The second digit is a company prefix (0037000). The third digit is an item reference (06542), and the last digit is a serial number (773346595). Each digit is separated by a period.
