Shift Nudge Module

The Shift Nudge Module is designed to educate utility customers about the environmental benefits of adjusting when they use electricity. By highlighting the impact of high-demand periods on energy generation, the module encourages customers to shift their usage to times when demand is lower and cleaner energy sources are more likely to be used.

This module helps utilities promote more sustainable energy consumption behaviors without requiring significant effort from customers. By clearly communicating when to avoid using electricity, it empowers customers to make small changes that collectively reduce strain on the grid and lower overall emissions.

For customers, the module provides simple, actionable guidance that connects everyday energy use decisions to broader environmental outcomes. This strengthens customer engagement while reinforcing the utility’s role in supporting environmental responsibility.

User Experience

This module includes the following components:

Graphic: A visual icon displayed at the top of the module showing a globe with a lightning symbol, representing energy use and its environmental impact.

Heading: A prominent title that communicates the main message of the module. For example, “Shift your use, help the environment”.

Explainer Statement: A short paragraph that explains how shifting electricity usage can reduce emissions and benefit the environment. For example, “Using electricity when demand is low can cut emissions by reducing the need for more polluting power generation.”

Times to Avoid: A highlighted section that specifies the peak time period customers should avoid using electricity. For example, “Time to avoid is 4pm - 8pm”.
