Increase or decrease bandwidth using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect
Introduction
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect (OCI FastConnect) allows customers to connect directly to their Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) virtual cloud network via dedicated, private, high-bandwidth connections.
Bandwidth alteration is possible by increasing it or decreasing it based on our needs.
OCI FastConnect Pricing
Oracle only charges for port hours, not for data transfer. If you use a connectivity provider to connect to a OCI FastConnect location, the connectivity provider will bill you separately for the bandwidth you provision with them as well as any additional costs.
Objectives
Increasing or decrease the bandwidth from existing bandwidth to a newer bandwidth based on the requirement using the partner method connectivity.
Prerequisites
-
VCN is created with a non-overlapping CIDR.
-
DRG is deployed, VCN is attached to this DRG and OCI FastConnect is established using the partner method. The bandwidth chosen when creating the initial connection is 2Gbps.
Task 1: Increase the bandwidth
Consider an example where the current bandwidth for the OCI FastConnect connection is 2Gbps and we want to change it to 10Gbps.
-
Log in to the OCI console, navigate to Networking, select Customer connectivity and then click FastConnect. Here we select the provisioned connection to modify its bandwidth as shown in the below image.
-
Click Edit and change the bandwidth as shown below.
-
Select the value required to increase the bandwidth. In this case, it is 10Gbps.
-
Click Save.
The connection will change its state from provisioned to provisioning for a few minutes and it is updated with the recent bandwidth change which is 10Gbps.
Task 2: Decrease the bandwidth
To reduce the OCI FastConnect bandwidth from 10Gbps to 1Gbps, edit the virtual circuit and choose the 1Gbps option.
-
Click Edit and change the bandwidth as shown below.
-
Select the value required to decrease the bandwidth. In this case, it is 1Gbps.
Once the changes have been made, it will be as shown below:
Note: It can take between 10-15 minutes for the connection to reflect the value in the OCI console with changed value. We have successfully changed the bandwidth from 10Gbps to 1Gbps for this OCI FastConnect connection.
