Delete an ESXi Host from Oracle Cloud VMware Solution
Introduction
A step-by-step guide to add or delete an ESXi host to the Oracle Cloud VMware Solution pre-defined cluster. The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) team’s focus is to enable you, our customers, so you can perform this administrative task in your environment when necessary by following this tutorial.
Objectives
A guide to remove an ESXi host from the Oracle Cloud VMware Solution.
Set Host State to Enter Maintenance Mode

Log in to the vSphere Web Client User Interface, select the cluster you want to edit, then select the ESXi host you want to remove.

From the Actions drop-down list, select Maintenance Mode and then select Enter Maintenance Mode.

On the Maintenance Mode screen, select Go To Pre-Check.

Select Full data migration and click Pre-Check

Once the pre-check completes, you should see a green check box stating the host can enter maintenance mode.

Leave Move powered-off and suspended virtual machines to other hosts in the cluster checked. Select Migrate all VM data and click OK.

To begin removing an ESXi host from the Oracle VMWare Cluster, you will first remove it from NSX-T Manager. Log into the NSX-T Manager UI as admin with the appropriate password.

Detach the Transport Node Profile by selecting System, then Transport Nodes, then select the Host to be removed, and select Detach Transport Node Profile from the Actions drop-down menu.

From the System Overview menu, select Fabric, select Nodes, and then select Host Transport Nodes. From the drop-down list, select vCenter and then select the host you want to remove. Select Remove NSX.

Select Uninstall NSX Components and Force Delete, then click on Delete.

The Status page will show the host as Not Available.

Select the cluster, and from the Hosts menu, select the host. From the Actions drop-down list, select Move To and move the host to a level above the cluster so it will be a standalone host.

You will be prompted to move the host to a different level.

The vSAN Configuration will be updated and any virtual machines that reside on the host will be migrated to another ESXi host in the cluster.

Right-click on Inventory in vSphere GUI and select Global Inventory Lists, right-click on Host being removed. Select Connection from drop-down menu, then select Disconnect.

Select Actions from drop-down list, select Remove from Inventory.

Select Yes to Remove this host.

Re-attach profile in NSX-T Manager UI.

Terminate Host

Log in to the Oracle Cloud Console, select the SDDC cluster, and select Terminate.

Select Terminate ESXi host and wait for the process to complete.
