Note:

Scale ECPU to Zero for Oracle Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure

Introduction

Oracle Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure provides the ability to scale enabled ECPUs to zero. With this capability, you can,

Users can resume activities easily by scaling enabled ECPU backup when the demand for servicing workloads returns.

Objectives

Scale Enabled ECPUs to Zero

  1. Log in to the OCI Console, navigate to Oracle Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure.

  4. Configure the number of enabled ECPUs that you want to allocate for the VM cluster. In ECPUs enabled per VM, enter 0 to scale the enabled ECPUs to zero.

    Note:

    • When scaling a VM cluster, setting the number of ECPUs to zero will shut down the VM cluster and eliminate billing related to enabled ECPU usage.
    • Scaling enabled ECPU to zero does not scale total ECPU to zero because the physically-reserved total ECPUs remain allocated on the physical server so that VMs can be readily booted up on an on-demand basis.
    • Scaling enabled ECPU to zero only stops usage-related billing, whereas infrastructure-related billing remains in-effect based upon the total ECPU count.
  5. Click Save changes.

The VM cluster goes into the UPDATING state. When the scale operation has been successfully completed, the cluster returns to the AVAILABLE state.

Check the new number of enabled ECPUs allocated for the VM cluster by reviewing the Enabled ECPUs under Resource allocation. The enabled ECPUs for the VM cluster is now set to Zero.
