SAP HA Maintenance Mode

Beginning with SAP Netweaver Kernel 749 patch level 200, SAP Netweaver offers to set a HA Maintenance Mode. This maintenance mode has the intention to make Oracle Solaris Cluster unresponsive during SAP upgrades and other SAP maintenance tasks. The goal is, that Oracle Solaris Cluster does not take corrective actions automatically, if SAP processes are stopped or started during the maintenance tasks.

Targets for the SAP HA Maintenance Mode are only the SAP instances with HA integration. Databases and other infrastructure are not in the focus of the SAP HA Maintenance Mode. The maintenance mode is set for cluster resources in resource groups which contain the SAP instance resources with HA integration. If a resource group does not contain a SAP instance resource with HA integration, it will not be set into maintenance.

Consequently infrastructure, in example the underlying databases and storage with their Oracle Solaris Cluster resources and resource groups, are not affected by an SAP HA Maintenance Mode, as long as they are contained in resource groups not covering SAP instances with HA integration.
