Servicing PCIe Cards and Carriers (CRU)

This section describes how to service PCIe cards. The PCIe cards are located at the back of the server. The server PCIe cards are housed in pairs inside card carriers called DPCCs (Dual PCIe Card Carriers). The DPCCs allow the cards to be hot serviced (removed and installed while the server is powered on). PCIe cards are customer-replaceable units (CRUs). For more information about CRUs, see Illustrated Parts Breakdown and Customer-Replaceable Units. Refer to your PCIe card documentation for complete software and cabling information about your card. For component serviceability, locations, and designations, see Replaceable Components.

Caution:

These procedures require that you handle components that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. This sensitivity can cause the components to fail. To avoid damage, ensure that you follow antistatic practices as described in Electrostatic Discharge and Static Prevention Measures.

Note:

Exadata X8-8 servers do not require a shut down to replace a PCIe card. Refer to Performing a Hot-Pluggable Replacement of a Flash Disk in Exadata Database Machine Maintenance Guide at Oracle Database Machine Maintenance Guide.
