Powering the Server On and Off

You can power the server on and off locally or remotely. To power off the server locally, you need access to the recessed On/Standby button on the front panel of the server. To power off the server remotely, you need access to Oracle ILOM.

The following procedures describe how to power the server on and off:

Power the Server On or Off (On/Standby Button)

For server-specific information, refer to the server Service Manual.

  1. To power the server on, use the On/Standby button on the front panel of the server.
  2. To power off the server, use the On/Standby button on the front panel of the server.

Power the Server On or Off (Oracle ILOM)

You can use Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) to remotely power on or power off the server.

Caution:

To completely power off the server, disconnect the power cords from the back panel of the server.

Caution:

Data loss. An immediate shutdown abruptly closes all applications and files without saving changes.
  1. Ensure that you have Admin (a) role privileges in Oracle ILOM.
  2. To change the server power state in the Oracle ILOM web interface:
    1. Log in to the Oracle ILOM web interface.
    2. In the navigation pane, click Host ManagementPower Control.
    3. In the Select Action menu, select a power control option.

  3. To change the server power state in the Oracle ILOM command-line interface (CLI):
    1. Log in to the Oracle ILOM CLI.
    2. Use one of the following commands:
      • To reset the server, type reset /System.

      • To gracefully shut down the server, type stop /System.

      • To immediately shut down the server, type stop -f /System.

      • To power on the server, type start /System.

  4. If you are prompted to confirm your choice, type y, and press Enter.
