Business Solution
HPC on Oracle Cloud
Infrastructure (OCI) allows manufacturing customers to run high performance computing workloads more
efficiently and at a better price performance than any other cloud provider.
Using bare metal optimized compute shapes, GPUs for visualization and low
latency remote direct memory access (RDMA) networking, the performance can even surpass
on-premises environments that many of these manufacturing customers are currently
maintaining. Combined with pre-built cluster networking stacks and configuration tools
provisioned on top of the infrastructure, manufacturers can quickly install and run their
simulations in as quickly as 30 minutes on OCI.
Running compute-intensive manufacturing workloads on OCI high-performance
computing (HPC) has the following benefits:
- Better price performance than any other cloud provider, with performance equivalent or better than on-premises systems.
- On-demand capacity, with ability to spin up a cluster + all the required HPC tools in as little as 30 minutes using prebuilt stacks and marketplace images. All that is required is bringing your own simulation software.
- Frees up time for engineers to focus on their simulations, minimizing time drained from cluster management or batch service queuing times.
- Flexible enough to run any manufacturing workload, including Electronic Design Automation (EDA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Crash Simulation, Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA) and other computer-aided engineering (CAE) workloads.
- Improves the use of licenses and costs by increasing the efficiency of the simulation. Many HPC manufacturing simulations (for example, Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+) use power on demand licensing on an unlimited number of cores, allowing manufacturers to take better advantage of HPC in the cloud.
Personas
This architecture describes the workflow and target personas for a high performance compute computational fluid dynamics solution.
- Product Design Engineer: Uses computational fluid dynamics modeling to evaluate airflow, turbulence, vortices, and other factors around automobiles and motorbikes at a vehicle manufacturing plant to improve design and functionality.
- Infrastructure Architect or Admin: Maintains the entire HPC cloud environment, including tenancy management, cluster provisioning, stack management, and so on.
- Technology Operations Manager: Monitors the efficiency of all tech operations, including design, infrastructure management, and so on. The Tech operations manager is interested in reducing overall costs for Design, Research and Development.
