Change an Oracle Data Guard Association to an Oracle Data Guard Group

Oracle Data Guard groups enable you to configure up to six standby databases.

Prior to adding more standby databases to a primary database that is already configured with a Data Guard Association, the primary databases’s old Data Guard Association model needs to be switched to a Data Guard Group resource model. This is only available for database versions 19c or newer. Switching to the new Data Guard Group resource model does not affect the primary or standby databases, as this process only changes the OCI Tooling metadata for the databases.

These steps explain how to change an Oracle Data Guard Association to an Oracle Data Guard Group:

  1. In OCI, open the navigation menu. Click Oracle Database, then click Exadata Cloud@Customer.
  2. Click the compartment where the Oracle Exadata Database Service on Cloud@Customer VM Cluster is configured.
  3. Click the VM Cluster that includes the database to be reconfigured.
  4. Click the Database name. If the database is using the Data Guard Association model, an information banner is displayed in the database window.
  5. Click Switch to new resource. A window with additional information is displayed.
  6. Click Start.
After the work request is complete, additional standby databases can be added to the primary database.
