Add a Drive to the Media Validation Pool

Add IBM LTO6 or higher drives to the pool to dedicate them for media validation.

Media validation drives are invisible to host applications and can only be used for media validation. If the drive you select for media validation currently belongs to a partition, the library will automatically remove it from the partition before placing it in the media validation pool.

  1. From the Library page or Drives table, right-click an IBM LTO6 or higher drive.

Valid drives show "Capable" in the Media Validation Status column of the Drives table.

  2. Select Use for Media Validation to add the drive to the pool.
  3. The library must go offline to perform this action. Use the checkbox to select whether or not to automatically bring the library back online. Click OK.

The library will go offline, disable the drive data ports, and add the drive to the media validation pool. The drive is no longer available for host operations.

Drive with MV denoting it is for media validation only

The drive will be marked with MV on the Library page and the Drives table will show "Ready" in the Media Validation Status column once the library successfully adds the drive to the media validation pool.
