Terminate Oracle Data Guard

This article provides the details and procedure to terminate Data Guard configuration on a DB system.

You can remove a Data Guard configuration by terminating all the standby databases.

You must terminate the DB system with the standby database before terminating the DB system with the primary database. Terminating the DB system with the standby database automatically terminates the Data Guard configuration. If you try terminating a DB system that has the primary before terminating the standby, the terminate operation will not complete.

Alternatively, you can switch over the primary database to the standby role and then terminate it.

For more instructions on terminating a DB system, see Terminate a DB System.

Procedure

Perform the following steps on the standby database to remove a Data Guard configuration by terminating the standby database using the OCI Console:

  1. On the DB Systems list page, select the DB system that you want to work with. If you need help finding the list page or the DB system, see List the DB Systems.
  2. On the Databases tab, select the database that you want to work with.
  3. On the database details page, from the More actions menu, select Terminate and confirm.

The DB system's icon indicates 'Terminating'.
