Introduction

The Generic Connection Framework Specification 8 GCF 8) consolidates the specifications from:

  • the Connected Limited Device Configuration version 1.1.1,
  • the Connected Device Configuration version 1.1.2,
  • the Mobile Information Device Profile version 2.1,
  • the Mobile Information Device Profile version 3.0,
  • the Foundation Profile version 1.1.2, and
  • JSR 197: Generic Connection Framework Optional Package for the J2SE Platform.

The javax.microedition.io and javax.microedition.pki packages specify the behavior of the Framework API and a set of connections.

Who Should Use This Specification

The audience for this document includes:
  • application developers and content providers who want to write Java applications for small, resource-constrained, connected devices
  • device manufacturers who want to build small Java-enabled devices conforming to the GCF Specifications
