Using Oracle Solaris Unified Archives for Zone Migration

Unified Archives are a native archive type for Oracle Solaris. See Using Unified Archives for System Recovery and Cloning in Oracle Solaris 11.2 for a full description of Unified Archives, including usage for system and zone cloning, recovery, and migration.

Unified Archives are the most direct method to migrate a zone from one system to another when shared storage is not available. Unified Archive recovery archives are used in zone migrations. See Recovery Archives in Using Unified Archives for System Recovery and Cloning in Oracle Solaris 11.2 . Because any data written after the archive recovery creation is initiated will not be in the archive, it is advised to shut down a zone prior to migration with a recovery archive.

Unified Archives contain the zone configuration and the zone data. On the destination server, the zone can be both configured and installed from the archive.

After verifying that the zone is functioning properly on the destination server, the zone can be uninstalled from the source server. If it is not immediately uninstalled, the autoboot property should be set to false to prevent the same zone from running on multiple servers simultaneously.
