Activities and Two-Way Wireless Messaging

This section describes how the dispatch activity and the tracking activity are handled for a two-way wireless messaging scenario using the predefined workflows.

Two-way wireless messaging uses, in addition to the outbound workflow described in Table 76, the workflow process Inbound Wireless Messaging Activity Dispatch.

The Communications Inbound Receiver and Communications Inbound Processor server components and response groups you have configured process inbound messages, then invoke this workflow process to update the applicable dispatch activity and tracking activity records.

  • The dispatch activity record is updated according to the response sent by the field service representative who received the outbound message.

The inbound message includes the users's reply and the original outbound message. The inbound workflow parses the inbound reply message for this data in order to update the dispatch activity.

  • The tracking activity record is updated according to status information for the outbound message that is returned from the MobileSys Network.

The status message includes a status code for success or failure, and a unique message ID. The inbound workflow parses the inbound status message for this data in order to update the tracking activity.
