Sun StorageTek PCI-X SAS 8-Channel HBA Installation Guide
|
|
This chapter gives a general overview of the Sun StorageTek PCI-X Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) 8-Channel host bus adapter (HBA).
This chapter contains the following sections:
Features
The Sun StorageTek PCI-X SAS 8-Channel HBA is a low-profile, single-slot expansion board that interfaces to a PCI-X 133-MHz bus.
An optional standard height mounting bracket is provided with each HBA as shown in FIGURE 1-1.
FIGURE 1-1 Sun StorageTek PCI-X SAS 8-Channel HBA
The HBA includes the following features:
- Includes eight independent SAS channels that support both SAS and SATA signaling.
- Allows 3 Gb/s, full-duplex connections that are supported by all eight SAS channels.
- Supports up to 122 SAS/SATA devices through the use of an expander box.
- Includes field programmable 512-Kbyte flash ROM (contains BIOS, FCode, and firmware) for booting in a Sun SPARC or Sun x64/x86 processor-based host system.
- Supports SSP, STP, and SMP as defined in the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Specification, version 1.0.
- Supports SATA as defined in the Serial ATA Specification, version 1.0.
- Is Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) 6 compliant.
The PCI-X interface is compliant with the PCI-X Specification, revision 2.0, and it is backward compliant with previous versions of the PCI-X specifications. The HBA is keyed for 3.3 V PCI-X add-in card slots. The PCI-X to 3.0 Gbit/s SAS HBAs use either a standard PCI or a low-profile PCI mounting bracket. The HBA SAS interface is compatible with the ANSI Serial Attached SCSI Specification, revision 1.0 and the Serial ATA Specification, revision 1.0a.
