B Removing a disk card

To remove a disk card from either the SPARCserver 1000 or disk tower 1000 chassis:

    1. Use an ESD strap.

Connect the strap to your wrist and to a ground point (the bare metal of the card cage, for instance).

    2. Remove the two screws that hold the disk card to the card cage.

See Figure B-1. Set the screws aside for later reinstallation.

    3. Pull the curved ends of the extraction levers outward to release the disk card from the backplane connector.

    4. Hold the disk card by the extraction levers, and gently slide it half way out of the card cage.

The disk card is cut out on the right side; therefore, the right side of the card will clear the card guides first.

    5. Hold the disk card as shown in Figure B-3 and remove it from the card cage.

    6. Place the disk card on an ESD mat or in an antistatic bag.
    7. If you are not installing a new disk card, install an air restrictor board in the empty slot in the chassis.

Cooling efficiency is drastically reduced if the slots are not filled.
