E35148-07

October 2013

Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 3 Plug-in Update 1 (12.1.0.3) contains the Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 3 (12.1.0.3) software binaries updated with the latest plug-in releases. Note that the Oracle Management Service (OMS) and Management Agent software binaries have not been changed; they have only been updated to include the latest plug-ins.

If you have already installed Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 3 (12.1.0.3), you can deploy the latest plug-in releases to your existing installation, rather than install or update to Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 3 Plug-in Update 1 (12.1.0.3).

This document contains the following sections; review the one that matches your situation:

Known Upgrade Issues

This section covers issues related to upgrading to Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 3 (12.1.0.3).

2-System Upgrades On Same Host Not Supported

The 2-system upgrade option is not supported if upgrading from Enterprise Manager Cloud Control releases 10.2.0.5/11.1.0.1 to release 12.1.0.x on a host where an existing Oracle Management Service release 10.2.0.5 or 11.1.0.1 instance is already deployed.

(Bug 12957922)

Upgrading Management Agent From 11.1.0.1 to 12.1.0.3 Via Pre-Upgrade Console Fails at unzipAndDeploy Step

Upgrade of a Management Agent from release 11.1.0.1 to release 12.1.0.3 fails on a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 host when using the Pre-Upgrade Console. The issue occurs at the unzipAndDeploy step due to a prerequisites check failure.

To work around this issue, select the Ignore Prerequisite Check option in the Pre-Upgrade Console before beginning the upgrade.

(Bug 16264204)

Management Repository Upgrade Fails When Upgrading From Cloud Control Release 12.1.0.2 to Release 12.1.0.3

When upgrading the Management Repository database from Cloud Control Release 12.1.0.2 to Release 12.1.0.3, the following error may occur:

SEVERE: ERROR:ORA-00060: deadlock detected while waiting for resourceFile:*/oms/sysman/admin/emdrep/sql/core/latest/failover/failover_pkgdefs.sql

To resolve this issue using the installer:

  1. Stop then re-start the Management Repository database.

  2. Click the Retry button in the installer to re-attempt the upgrade.

To resolve this issue if you are not using the installer:

  1. Start the RepManager utility in resume mode. For details on using RepManager, see Appendix D: Using RepManager Utility in the Enterprise Manager Cloud Control Advanced Installation and Configuration Guide:

    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/install.121/e24089/appdx_repmgr.htm

  2. Invoke runConfig to complete the upgrade.

(Bug 16308685)

Pre-Upgrade Patch Required For Sites With More Than 1 Million Rows In Management Repository Table

If your Enterprise Manager site has more than 50,000 targets and has been running Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c for more than one year, verify that the em_cs_loader_eval_arg table in the Management Repository contains less than 1 million rows before beginning the upgrade to Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 3 (12.1.0.3). If the number of rows exceeds 1 million, contact Oracle Support to obtain and deploy the patch for Bug 16999710 before beginning the upgrade.

(Bug 16999710)

Management Repository Database Patches May Be Required

To avoid upgrade failures, you must apply patches on the Management Repository database if the following applies to your installation:

  • You are upgrading from Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.1) (with Bundle Patch 1) or Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 2 (12.1.0.2) to Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 3 (12.1.0.3); and

  • The Management Repository is installed on an Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.7) or 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.1)

For the list of required patches, refer to row (d) in "Step 2: Upgrade Oracle Management Service and Oracle Management Repository" as outlined in Table 3-1: Upgrading Primary Enterprise Manager Site in Chapter 3 of the Enterprise Manager Cloud Control Upgrade Guide:

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/upgrade.121/e22625/upgrading_12101_PS1_gtgstrtd.htm#BABGEHCI

(Bug 16181502)

If You Already Have Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 3 (12.1.0.3) Installed

You can download the latest plug-ins to the Software Library using the Self Update feature, then deploy it to your Oracle Management Service (OMS).

For detailed instructions, see the "Plug-In Manager" chapter in the Enterprise Manager Cloud Control Administrator's Guide:

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/doc.121/e24473/plugin_mngr.htm

Known Plug-in Deployment Issues

This section covers issues related to deploying or upgrading to the latest plug-in releases.

Apply Recommended Patch Before Running Self-Update

Attempting to deploy any of the latest plug-in releases to Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 3 (12.1.0.3) or Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 2 (12.1.0.2) via the Self-Update feature could fail in rare conditions related to a deadlock in the Management Repository database.

As a cautionary measure, it is highly recommended that you apply the Oracle Management Service patch for Bug 17412672 before attempting to deploy or upgrade to the new plug-ins. Instructions are provided in the ReadMe file supplied with the patch.

(Bug 17412672)

Enabling the Latest Plug-ins

Once the plug-ins have been successfully deployed, you can discover and promote targets to be managed and monitored by Enterprise Manager Cloud Control.

For detailed instructions, see the "Discovering and Monitoring Targets" chapter in the Enterprise Manager Cloud Control Administrator's Guide:
