Defining Your Revenue Classes
After you determine your organization's revenue classes, you need to define them in Oracle Sales Compensation. When you define revenue classes, follow these guidelines:
- Give each revenue class a unique name.
For example, Global sells a multimedia PC and a line of professional PCs, which includes the Sentinel and Envoy models. For both the multimedia and professional lines, Global has two types of configurations: assemble-to-order (ATO) and standard. Global must define subclasses for the multimedia line as MM ATO and MM Standard, while defining distinct subclasses for the professional line as Prof. ATO and Prof. Standard.
- Define a very broad revenue class to allow yourself the flexibility to assign to compensation plans a revenue class that pays salespeople for all types of revenue.
To define your organization's revenue classes:
1. Navigate to the Revenue Classification window.
By default, choose Classification Rules from the Setup menu. The Classification Rules window opens.
Choose Revenue Classes to open the Revenue Classes window. Use this window to add new revenue classes and to view existing revenue classes.
2. Type the names and descriptions for all revenue classes you've identified.
3. Save your work and exit the window.
After you create new revenue classes, the next step is to arrange the revenue classes into a hierarchy. See Arranging Revenue Classes into a Hierarchy.
