Oracle Sales Compensation uses the term "dimension" to refer to a type of hierarchy. You can create as many hierarchies as you need for each dimension. However, only one dimension/hierarchy can be effective at any given time.

In explaining processing involving hierarchies, we use the following terms, whose meanings are depicted in Figure 3 - 5:

• Root

• Parent

• Child

• Sibling

• Node

• Descendant

• Ancestor
