When administrators bring a service down for maintenance, they need a simple way to halt unnecessary paging and e-mail notification. Administrators with Superuser privileges can schedule a paging and e-mail blackout period on such a service. Like jobs, blackout schedules can be one-time, or recurring at intervals that you specify. Paging and e-mail automatically resume when the blackout period is finished.
