1.1 Purpose of this Document

This document describes differences between Oracle9i Application Server Release 2 (9.0.2) for for AIX-Based Systems, Compaq Tru64 UNIX, HP 9000 Series HP-UX, and Linux Intel and its documented functionality.

This document contains the following:

• operating system patches required for running Oracle9i Application Server

• installation and migration issues and workarounds

• general management and security issues and workarounds

• updates to books in the documentation library

This is the main Release Notes document for the product, and Oracle Corporation recommends you review its contents before reading the component release notes listed in the next section.

1.3 Operating System Requirements

The following tables contains the software requirements for Oracle9iAS.

• Table 1-2 lists the software requirements for AIX-Based Systems.

• Table 1-3 lists the software requirements for HP 9000 Series HP-UX.

• Table 1-4 lists the software requirements for Linux Intel.

• Table 1-5 lists the software requirements for Compaq Tru64.

Note: Download the operating system patches for AIX-Based Systems, Compaq Tru64 UNIX, HP 9000 Series HP-UX, and Linux Intel from the vendor web sites.

Note: The current JDK 1.3.1 production version is required. For Linux, this JDK is included on the Oracle9iAS CD-ROM

Operating System Packages	The OSFLIBA, OSFPGMR, and OSFCMPLRS subsets. These subsets are part of the Compaq Tru64 UNIX operating system distribution.
Window Manager	X Windows must be installed on the system from where the Installer is run. Use any Compaq-supported X Windows server with support for Motif, such as dtwm, twm, and mwm. Character mode installations are not supported for Oracle9iAS Release 2 (9.0.2) The X environments, Basic X-environments (OSF11), and X Servers (OSFSER) are required to run graphical products.
Required Executables	The following executables must be present in the /usr/ccs/bin directory: make, ar, ld, and nm.

1.5 Licensing Information

This section contains additional licensing information for the following:

1.5.1 Oracle9iAS Metadata Repository

Use of the metadata repository requires a database license. An Oracle9i Enterprise Edition license is required to support the following:

• Use of the metadata repository to run Oracle9iAS Wireless

• Use of the metadata repository to run Oracle9iAS Clickstream Intelligence

• Use of the replication feature of Oracle Internet Directory

All other uses of the metadata repository for Oracle9iAS require an Oracle9i Standard Edition license.

1.5.2 Customer Database Licensing

An Oracle9i Enterprise Edition license is required to use a customer database for the following components:

• Clickstream

• Personalization

• Wireless

• Replication feature of Oracle Internet Directory

1.6 Deprecated Features

The following features have been officially deprecated in Oracle9i Application Server Release 2 (9.0.2):

• Oracle9iAS Database Cache

• Enterprise Java Engine

• IIS Plugin

• mod_ssl based on openssl. This has been replaced by mod_ossl.

• Oracle9iAS Email Server is no longer a stand-alone product. It is now part of Oracle9iAS Unified Messaging.

• Jserv environment. This has been replace by Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE (OC4J).
