Release Considerations

In this release, the Offer object model has been modified to distinguish between an Offer and a Treatment. An offer is a new parent object that represents a cross-channel proposition to your customers. Channel-specific objects such as email offer or phone offer from previous releases have been renamed as email treatment or telephone treatment.

There are several upgrade considerations related to this change:

  • Offer records that were entered in a previous version of the application are preserved. However, the label for these records changes from Offer to Treatment. For example, an email offer is now called an email treatment. During the upgrade process, a new parent offer is automatically created for each existing offer that is relabeled as a treatment.
  • For campaigns entered in a previous version of the application, the existing campaign history records (stored in S_CAMP_CON) are updated with the primary treatment for the campaign. If you typically create a single offer for each campaign, this update helps to make sure that pre-upgrade campaign history conforms to your usage in the new Siebel campaign process.
  • The Marketing Campaign Load, Marketing Campaign Launch, and Marketing Wave Launch workflow processes have been updated to accommodate this enhancement. If your organization has configured or customized these workflows in a previous version of the application, then you need to investigate and resolve any differences.
  • The allocation of segments and segment trees to treatments has been moved from the program stage level to the campaign level. This allows you to target several lists or segments with multiple treatments in the same campaign. There are some upgrade considerations that are related to this enhancement:
    • The relationship between segments and segment trees that were previously allocated is preserved. If you have established a relationship between a segment tree cell and a campaign, the segment tree is associated with the campaign during the upgrade process. The process then allocates the segment tree cells to the primary treatment for the campaign, so that allocations are preserved.
    • A campaign is now treated as a direct child of a program. Stages can still be used to create a program flow, however the stage is now an optional attribute of a campaign, rather than the parent of the campaign.
