Siebel Server Requirements for Communications Server

Siebel Replication Manager is now supported for some Siebel Email Response scenarios.

Enabling Session Communications and Simulation

After you modify communications-related parameter values for Application Object Managers, changes take effect for each subsequent login. It is not necessary to restart the Siebel Server or server component.

Administering Communications Inbound Receiver

Administering Communications Inbound Processor

The architecture for inbound communications has changed. Two new server components are provided: Communications Inbound Receiver and Communications Inbound Processor. The new components replace the Communications Inbound Manager component.

The new Communications Inbound Events view can be used for monitoring inbound communications status (when using both of the new server components above).

See also Siebel Email Response Administration Guide.

The user interface for creating and modifying communications templates and template items has changed.

Preference Settings for Communications

In the User Preferences screen, Communications view, the Bring Siebel to Front option On All Communications Events has been renamed On All Incoming Work Items.

Installation for MobileSys MX software is now performed from a DVD.

Workflows for two-way wireless messaging have been enhanced.

Driver Parameters for Internet SMTP/POP3 Server Driver

Many new driver parameters for the Internet SMTP/POP3 Server communications driver provide new functionality:

  • The character set for an inbound email can be automatically detected and used for an outbound reply (see Charset, text/plain encoding, and text/html encoding parameters).
  • Outbound messages can be subject to line wrapping to enforce line length (see Max Line Length and related parameters).
  • Inbound HTML messages can be converted to plain text (see Convert Incoming To HTML parameter).
  • Delivery status notification for outbound messages is supported (see Delivery Status Domain and Delivery Status Mailbox parameters).
  • SSL encryption is provided for inbound/outbound email (see Enable SSL for POP3, Enable SSL for SMTP, and related parameters).
  • Authentication is supported for outbound email (see SMTP Account Name and related parameters).
  • Connecting to a backup SMTP server is supported (see SMTP Backup Account Name and related parameters).
  • Inbound email messages with embedded content can optionally be accessed in the form of EML attachments (see Parse Embedded Messages parameter).
  • The priority level for outbound messages can be specified (see Priority parameter).

Configuring Client-Side Integration for Send Email

Installation for third-party email forms is now performed from a DVD.

The Microsoft Outlook template file containing the email form is not provided by Siebel Systems. For details on how to configure the email form, see Siebel SupportWeb.

The CAB files and ActiveX controls that support client-side email integration have changed. See also Siebel System Administration Guide.

Arguments for Outbound Communications Manager Methods

File attachments can now be sent using the Send Message method of the Outbound Communications Manager business service. The AttachFileList and AttachNameList arguments are now supported for this purpose.

Custom Driver Upgrade Issues

For those developing or supporting a custom communications driver, the driver handle method FreeSCStrParamList must be implemented.
