Installing the Siebel Server

To avoid DVD swapping, copy all installation files, including the required language files, to a common installation directory within your system, or use the Network Image Creator. For more information, see Selecting Your Media for Installation. If you elect not to install directly from DVD, you will not see some of the prompts regarding swapping the DVD in the following procedure.

NOTE:  The following procedure is for installing the base product. For patch installation instructions, refer to the Maintenance Release Guide provided with the patch.

To install the Siebel Server

  1. Review the requirements for installing Siebel Server. See Siebel Server Installation Requirements.
  2. Log on using the Siebel Service Owner Account.

This account must belong to the Windows domain of the Siebel Enterprise Server.

If you do not log on using the Siebel Service Owner Account, make sure that the account you use belongs to the Windows domain of the Siebel Enterprise Server and has full write permissions to the Siebel File System.

  3. Shut down all open programs running on the server.
  4. Stop any active Siebel Server Windows services, except the Siebel Gateway Name Server service.
  5. If you are installing from DVD, insert the appropriate DVD for the Siebel applications into the DVD drive of the chosen server:
    • Siebel eBusiness Applications, Base Applications for Windows
    • Siebel Industry Applications, Base Applications for Windows
  6. In Windows Explorer, double-click seawinunibase (for Siebel eBusiness Applications) or siawinunibase (for Siebel Industry Applications).
  7. Navigate to Windows\Server\Windows_Enterprise_Server and double-click setup.exe.

The Welcome to InstallShield Wizard for Siebel Enterprise Server screen appears.

  8. Click Next.
  9. Depending on whether you are installing your Siebel Server for the first time or adding a new language to an existing instance, take the appropriate action:
  10. Use the Browse button to select a different drive or directory or select the displayed default directory for file installation, and then click Next.

This directory name must not contain spaces, although underscores are allowed.

The installer prompts you to select the product that you want to install.

  11. Choose the product or products you want to install at this time and click Next.

If you install all licensed components at once, the Siebel Enterprise Server Installer and the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard prompts you for the installation parameters of each component individually and in the sequence required.

The installer prompts you to select the type of installation setup you prefer.

  12. Choose the type of Siebel Server installation to execute from the following options and click Next.

For a list of the installable components for each type, see Table 11.

    • Typical. Installs all Siebel Server components.
    • Compact. Installs only those components necessary to run the Siebel Server, but no additional components or help.
    • Custom. Lets you customize your installation by choosing the specific components you want to install.

The listed Custom Installation options are all selectable. Some options listed under Typical that are required will also be installed as part of the Custom installation.

      Table 11.  Installable Components
      Installation Option
      Products

      Typical or Custom

      • Handheld Synchronization
      • Object Manager Component—Object Managers for eBusiness Applications
      • Data Quality Connector—Used to configure Data Quality with FirstLogic software
      • Siebel Enterprise Server (installed)
      • Remote Search Support—Files supporting Siebel Remote Search functionality
      • Java Integrator

      Compact

      • Object Manager Component
      • Remote Search Support
      • Java Integrator
    • If you chose the Custom installation type, proceed to Step 13; otherwise, proceed to Step 14.
  13. Select the components that you want to install and click Next.
  14. If you are not installing into a directory that has other Siebel components installed to it, select the Language Packs you are installing for the Siebel Server and click Next; otherwise, proceed to Step 15.

If you already installed a server and a primary language into this installation instance, that language will not be part of the menu. The reason that the primary language does not display is because that language has already been installed and is considered to be your primary (base) language.

Servers are installed, at a minimum, with the primary (base) language in which the server will be run. This is the primary (base) language for your Enterprise Server. Optionally, you can install one or more additional languages.

NOTE:  In a Unicode-enabled database environment, you can install any of the available Siebel Language Packs. In a non-Unicode database environment, you must consider whether your database code page supports those languages that you want to install. For example, in a Western European code page database, you can only install Western European Language Packs, such as English, French, Spanish, or German Language Packs. In a Japanese code page database, you can only install Japanese or English Language Packs.

For a list of supported code pages and encoding strategies, see System Requirements and Supported Platforms on Siebel SupportWeb.

The installer program performs a validation check to make sure that installation prerequisites were met. If they were, it prompts you about the eBriefings and eContent Services; otherwise, it errors out.

  15. Indicate the eBriefings and eContent licensing your organization has purchased by clicking the appropriate radio button option, and then click Next.
  16. If you selected eBriefings and eContent Services, read the license agreement.
    • To accept and continue with installation, click Yes.

NOTE:  If you select eBriefings and eContent Services, you must accept the license agreement for them. If you reject the agreement, the Configuration Wizard will exit.

    • To decline, click No. The installer prompts you that this response will cause it to quit.
    • To return to an earlier screen to change your selection, click Back.
  17. Click Next to accept the default Program Folder for the shortcuts, or change the Program Folder, and then click Next.

The installer displays the location into which it will install the Siebel Server and any other servers you have elected to install. It also displays the file size.

  18. Review the information and take the appropriate action:
    • If these parameters are acceptable, click Next.
    • Otherwise, click Back to adjust your installation parameters or location.

The installer proceeds to install the specified files. After the files have been copied to the installation location, this message appears:

Setup did not find the lang language pack on the current media. Please insert the DVD containing the lang language pack and select the setup.exe file from the lang folder.

    where:

lang = The code for the language you are installing, such as enu for U.S. English.

  19. Click OK.

A screen titled Insert DVD for lang Language Pack appears (where lang stands for the Language Pack you are installing), and displays a file called siebel.ini. However, you do not need to do anything with this file.

  20. Navigate to Windows\Server\Siebel_Enterprise_Server\lang and double-click setup.exe.

A message appears, stating that language files are being installed. When all language files have been installed, a new message box appears, stating:

Please re-insert the base DVD and browse to setup.exe to enable setup to continue.

  21. Click OK.
  22. Remove the current DVD from the drive, and reinsert the base DVD into the DVD drive.
  23. Double-click setup.exe.
  24. Select one of the following options to continue:
    • Continue with configuring the Siebel Server. Do this if you are installing the primary Siebel Server for the Siebel Enterprise Server. For detailed instructions, see Configuring the Siebel Server.
    • Close out of the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard and configure later. In this case, the installer displays the following message; however, note that you cannot operate the Siebel Server until it is configured:

The InstallShield Wizard has successfully installed the Siebel Enterprise Server. Click Finish to exit the Wizard.

  25. To complete the installation process, click Finish.

If you would like to view events that occurred during the installation, you can access the log generated by the installer at SIEBEL_ROOT\log.txt or the log generated by the Siebel application at SIEBEL_ROOT\siebsrvr\LOG.
